Executive committees from Waterloo Cedar Rapids Iowa City and Mason City adopt plans to charter a special train to carry eastern Iowa scouts to the national jamboree in Washington D C from June 30 to July 9.
Roy A. Mough, local grocer, will sponsor Newtons second annual dog show. Boys and girls will parade their dogs on the public square before prizes are awarded. Dogs will be judged for homeliness, tail length, size, and other quirks, with top winners celebrated.
Unofficial city returns show Ottumwa mayor Edwin C. Manning winning by a single vote over challenger C. A. Hull. Manning secured 3 518 votes, Hull received 519, with final totals potentially altered by ballots that could cause a tie.

Waterloo Seaman Wentworth, the child's foster father, was granted custody of Barbara Jean Wentworth age 5. The grandmother Mrs. Ida Sass was ordered to deliver the child, while the father Roy Necker also sought custody. Wentworth had adopted the child with the mother's first husband’s consent. the mother’s mother, Mrs. Sass, is the late January death of Mrs. Wentworth.
Jay Grafton Love was baptized at the Little Brown church by Rev. William Kent using the same baptismal bowl and altar cloth as when his mother was baptized there. The infant is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jay Grafton Love of Rochester.
Incumbent George Burdock won the mayor’s seat amid a crowded nine candidate field in Oskaloosa. Opponents included a former sheriff a councilman three grocers a former relief official a decorator and a former employee. A $100 reward was posted for information identifying a handbill circulator labeling Everhart the Communist candidate.
Mayor Liogd Lytle won re election by 68 votes over Schmitt as Citizens slate captured all local offices in Washington. Voters chose Lytle in wards one two and four while Schmitt led in ward three. council seats went to incumbents and economy ticket rivals.
Washington county applicants for enrollment in CCC will be sent to Sigourney for examination and enrollment if they survive the tests. Miss Helen Creswell, county welfare worker, said six have already applied and a number more are expected.

Mayor R L Lytle was chosen for a third term in Washington after yesterday's municipal election. Appointed in April 1933 to fill the late D J Ross's term, he served nearly two years, then two more years with re election without opposition alongside other city officers.
County Treasurer Marion George reports March tax receipts at 184 563 72 with March payments nearly on target. The first half of 1937 taxes is due without penalty today, and starting April 1 a 0.75 percent penalty will apply for post March 31 delinquency. The legislature may extend grace again, and older years’ head tax remains due for those who have not paid.

He suggests an 18 year term limit for justices and criticizes opponents for seeking constitutional change without voter input. Senator Carter Glass also objects to the plan as a threat to representative government.
American Legion members from Washington county travel to Columbus Junction on Thursday evening to aid in organizing Louisa county posts. A Friday gathering in Iowa City continues the effort for Johnson county. Next Monday features a joint Leon Beatty post and auxiliary meeting at city hall with an old fashioned box supper. The Leon Beatty post will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday April 4 the war declaration’s twentieth anniversary with a business session refreshments and a motion picture Here Comes the Mail.
Funeral services were held at 2 p m at I A Jones funeral home for Josephine Anne Shaila nearly two years old who died yesterday at the county hospital Burial was in Richmond cemetery The services were led by Dr Arthur Atack of the Methodist church Surviving are her parents Mr and Mrs Jesse Shalla a sister Jeanne and two brothers Jessie Jr and James Her twin sister Janice Lee is dead.
Davenport business visitor Joe Freund traveled to Washington today on a professional engagement likely involving meetings and discussions with officials and firms. He is identified as a local business traveler from Davenport.

The film Here Comes the Mail will be shown in Washington next week. Postmaster A C DeLong announces it owned by the Iowa federation of postal clerks. Schools and Legion meeting Tuesday evening and Chamber of Commerce Thursday night will feature screenings. The film educates on postal service history and mail facilities and may be used elsewhere in the community.
Fire destroyed the Burlington county alms house in New Lisbon on March 30. More than 100 inmates were carried or led to safety as forty bedridden patients were moved to nearby hospitals. Mary Lahay, about six years old, and 103 year old Joseph Willow were among those rescued, with Willow helping guide seniors to safety. The 1895 building was wrecked and losses exceed 100000 dollars.

Los Angeles police storm a rooming house finding a map of Hawaiian fortification, stolen Los Angeles water system plans, and documents said to hold military secrets. A strong radio set is recovered and detectives suspect an Oriental spy ring. A knife battle near the house left one Japanese man critically wounded and unnamed, another jailed.
Madrid officials said Spanish loyalists scored a ten mile advance and forced rebels to retreat on the Guadalajara front east of a major rebel withdrawal. The communique claimed government ships shelled rebel ports on the Balearic Islands and Majorca while the Madrid Valencia road was cleared by floods near Arganda, limiting rebel maneuverability.
