Communist supported naval mutineers in Brazil surrendered to army troops after clashes that left two sailors wounded. About 1,000 mutineers stepped down from the Minas Gerais vessel in Guanabara Bay and prepared to report for duty amid assurances of release.

Charles Olds 64 of Davenport died this morning at University Hospital Iowa City. Born November 23 1900 in Ainsworth, he married Mabel Thomas in 1922 and moved to Davenport. Survived by wife, son Jack, three brothers Floyd John Marion, two sisters Kathryn Godfrey and Luella Pearson, and five grandchildren.

Two U S Fliers Freed By Russians In East Germany
Two American airmen Capt. David S. Holland and Capt. Melvin J. Kessler were released by Soviet authorities after being shot down over East Germany. They arrived in West Germany with other crew and were reported in good condition. A third crew member, Lt. Harold W. Welch, was released earlier after injury. An American opera singer Gabriele Hammerstein was freed separately in East Berlin after an appeal.

Two Auto Accidents Hit West Madison Street
West Madison saw two morning crashes. Cecil Hawkins of Washington tried a right turn from the inside lane and hit James Whitely in the outside lane. Hawkins faced a charge of improper turn. Damage totaled 125 to Hawkins car and 150 to Whitely’s. A second crash at 9 40 involved Mervin Grosscup of Washington forcing into Joseph Sexton of West Liberty after an unidentified car pulled onto West Madison. Sexton sustained 150 damage. Grosscup’s truck had no damage and no charges were filed.
