Milton Smith 71 of 1222 North Second Avenue died at 10 45 a m today in Washington County Hospital after two years of illness. Funeral Saturday at 4 p m at Jones Funeral Home with Rev Theodore Schwartz officiating. Burial Elm Grove Cemetery. Survived by 12 immediate relatives including sons Donald Ottumwa and Stanley Ainsworth and many daughters, plus 25 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Born April 10 1893 in Iowa County. mourned by widow Eva Ramsey Smith who died 1961. He was a lifelong resident and Methodist.

Icy Streets Trigger Two City Auto Crashes
Slick roads caused two vehicle accidents in the city per police reports. John Bernard Mulcahy of 1026 North Iowa, Washington, turned from West Second Street to North Ave C and struck a parked car owned by Roger Elmer Stalder of 1212 North Ave C. Washington. Damages were $10 to Mulcahy’s car and $125 to Stalder’s. No charges were filed. Dale Caldwell of 416 E Harrison was driving south on North Marion when James Fredrick Marsh of 501 South Ninth backed from a space into Caldwell’s path. Caldwell then slid into a parked car owned by Mrs. Jewell Carris of 907 South Fourth Avenue.
