Honey Creek operator H R Si Watson was shot in the leg by a robber who escaped with a small amount of money. Watson resisted, struck the assailant, who then fired from the floor, inflicting a slight wound. The attacker fled.
Sac City Blonard R Basch a transient employed at Auburn transient camp died when bed clothing caught fire from a cigarette in the city jail. Basch had been arrested for alleged intoxication and died from injuries in custody.
The city's lone Civil War veteran John Hinks aged 91 is identified as a member of the St Michigan regiment which suffered the second highest loss among regiments in the war.
Waterloo auction saw forty eight head of cattle bring about 7609 dollars total for an average of 160 dollars. Fifteen animals sold for more than 2700 dollars each. Eight bulls averaged 163 dollars.
Marion-t Luck is living with Mr. and Mrs. Leo Griswold. Their son Larry Griswold is seriously ill with measles mumps and pneumonia.
Hawkeye Canning signed more than 1 00 acres of sweet corn for the local plant. The price was 7 a ton. Sixty contracts cover 10 to 16 acres each.
G R Walters describes a lightning strike near his car on Sunday night in Iowa City. He says a loud crash and a flash occurred as he drove past, causing damage to the vehicle though he was uninjured.

A farmer near Horton Indiana suffered severe cuts and bruises to both arms and shoulder when his clothes became entangled in a buzz saw shaft while cutting wood on Saturday. Fellow workers shut off the machine quickly, preventing worse injuries.
Keokuk native Ben Hammel, 26, an Electro Metals plant employee, died yesterday after contacting a 220 volt extension cord in a conveyor pit. Police and safety officials investigated the workplace accident.
Mrs Anna Ver Mahin widow of John Mahin a founder and long time editor publisher of the Muscatine Journal died at her home in East Orange New Jersey after more than fifty years’ association with the Muscatine newspaper. She was sister of the late A W Lee founder of the Lee Syndicate newspapers.
The Des Moines town house passed a bill to require public bidding on all future state warrant issuances and to legalize refunding of a 3.5 million dollar sinking fund anticipatory warrants sold last year to Carleton D Beh. The bill advances to the senate while other items like basic science pill and mulet tax law are scheduled for next week.
Washington township Farm Bureau members will attend a meeting at 305 EK Madison Street tonight at 8:00. Mrs. Joe Wolf chairs the program focusing on poultry raising with educational films. Washington March 27 Republican leaders outlined a spring farm belt rally to shift party leadership west to the Mississippi Valley. Officials from about ten states expect a May meeting in Kansas City or Topeka to map 1936 plans. John B. Thomas, 72, a retired farmer of Cedar Rapids, died after his clothing caught fire Tuesday night at his home near the Curtis bridge on Town City road. He lived alone.
Mrs. Dave Schantz of south of Washington in Marion township died this morning at Mercy hospital in Burlington after eight days illness from complications of a severe cold. The body was taken to L A Jones funeral home for arrangements with services likely at United Presbyterian church Crawfordsville and burial at Stronghurst Illinois. She was born at Stronghurst on July 4 1901 and had lived in the county for years with the family previously in Crawfordsville.
A neighbor passing by found the aged resident with clothes burned away. Police believe he fell asleep while smoking a pipe, causing the fire. The house itself was not burned.
The county relief committee chair, Carl W. Klein, said the subsistence garden project in Washington is delayed until the budget is approved. Relief recipients may prep plots weather permitting, seeds issued only after initial work begins, with Gerald Duncan named supervisor and state headquarters finalizing approval.
Monmouth college men glee club led by director Joe Shaver depart for an eastern tour. The 32 member group includes Har vey Coulter and John Owen with a harp soloist wife, two violin soloists, and Harvey Coulter in a special quartet. They may broadcast from WLW Cincinnati next Tuesday morning. Tonight they sing in Marionville Indiana then perform in Columbus Dayton Oxford Xenia Cincinnati Chicago and other cities.

Germany seeks equal air power with Britain and France, a navy one third their size, reunification of the Polish corridor, economic union with Austria, end of Versailles limits, and split of the Russian army. France fears Germany's eastern boundary not being permanent.
