Boice Tops 33 Debaters In Iowa City Tourney
Junior Boice rated best among 33 high school debaters at the Iowa Nine tournament in Iowa City last weekend. He had five debates with three firsts and two seconds, averaging two and two fifths. Davenport’s Ray Reese and Fairfield’s Mary Mecorhead tied for second with an average of two and one third. Washington placed fourth overall, with three negative and three affirmative wins as Davenport led the field with all twelve debates won. Phyllis Flenner of Washington spoke at the southeast Town district extemporaneous contest in Oskaloosa, with seven schools represented and the state finals set for Iowa City next weekend.
