U.S. Marines sweeping Quant Nghai Province uncovered hastily buried Viet Cong bodies from Operation Texas. A spokesman said more than 500 Viet Cong were killed. American air forces hit coastal targets, ripping up a 50-truck convoy 60 miles south of Vinh, destroying 20 trucks.
President Johnson pledged the United States will preserve and strengthen NATO with 13 allies while signaling openness to France rejoining the alliance. He warned that erosion of collective will would shake stability and urged continued joint action to deter aggression in the Atlantic world.

An Air Force team surveyed soggy farm fields in Michigan to identify a pulsating glowing object sighted by farmers deputies and college students. Dr H Allen Hynek questioned a nearby farm family as scores reported similar sightings in Ann Arbor and Hillsdale College involving coeds and a dorm marshland touchdown.
