Swartzendruber rites set for Wednesday in Kalona
Funeral services for Mrs. Samuel C. Swartzendruber 64 of Kalona, who died Sunday at Mercy Hospital Iowa City after a six day illness, will be held Wednesday at 1 30 p m in the East Union Mennonite Church with A Lloyd Swartzendruber and J John J Miller officiating. Burial will be in Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Yoder Funeral Home Kalona handles arrangements. She was born May 1 1899 in Johnson county daughter of Abraham and Lucy Hershberger Miller. She married Samuel S Swartzendruber Oct 19 1921 who preceded her in death. She resided in Kalona and was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church. She is survived by her mother Mrs Lucy Miller.

Dwelling Fire On South 4th Ave Damages Washington Home
The city fire department responded to an electrical fire at the Donald Crone residence, 724 South Fourth Ave, Washington, around 10 a.m. The two story frame house suffered smoke damage with only minor fire and water damage. Fire chief Tom Tanner cited the blaze starting in a ceiling light fixture and spreading between the ceiling and second floor.

Joseph E. Miller 97 Dies Near Kalona
Joseph E. Miller, 97, died at his farm home four miles north of Kalona Sunday night. Funeral at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller residence, with Mose W. Yoder and Levi Schrock in charge. Burial in Gingerich cemetery. Yoder Funeral Home in charge. Survived by four daughters, 23 grandchildren, 107 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a sister. Miller born June 30, 1866 in Indiana. married Katie Brenneman in 1894. she died in 1928.

Speed blamed as factor in four of Iowa weekend deaths
The Iowa weekend toll rose to 14 in 1964 as speed contributed to four of six highway deaths. A Row an mother and son died when a car veered into a bridge abutment after a warning ticket for speeding. A youth being chased by a patrolman involved in a head on collision with another car. A separate fatal crash near Okoboji killed Tuttler and injured two others. Nearby, two Hawkeye men died in a Fayette County head on crash and Willis Brackey died in another collision near Thompson with multiple injuries to family members.
