Cuban air force defectors flee to the United States
Two Cuban pilots who commandeered a Russian helicopter and defected to the United States were questioned in Miami after arriving from Key West with a 17 year old gunner who asked to return to Cuba. The dead pilot was identified as Jose Arcadio Garcia.

Semi Truck Blocks Route 218 Near Crawfordsville
A semi trailer from Osage Nebraska skidded on slick pavement Friday morning around 8 15 blocking southbound traffic on Route 218 near the Hesseltine homes. It broke a telephone pole, slid across the road, and the Fletcher Motor Co wrecker pulled it from the ditch. The truck continued northward with minor damage and the driver’s name unavailable. The delay held up Waco students as southbound buses were held about 30 minutes delaying school opening.

U S airman Welch to be released by Soviets
First Lieutenant Harold W. Welch, one of three U S airmen shot down over East Germany on March 10, is releasing today. An Air Force ambulance collected him from Magdeburg Soviet hospital and will fly him to Wiesbaden. The two other captives, Capt. David I. Holland and Melvin J. Kessler, remain unrevealed and their status is unclear.
