In Fort Madison Iowa Eugene Yolton recalls thieves looting his residence while his bulldog did not attack. The dog watched from a table as the burglars escaped with about $800 in jewelry, unseen until the family returned.
Emma Lee Reis, 15 months old of Dunlap, suffered eye damage when a glass shard from a broken glass while at home injured her eye. The operation to remove the eye was performed at Jennie Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs. The incident followed a fall from a high chair.
More than 300 men and women at Iowa State Teachers College have signed up for the "I Won't Walk" club to oppose the hitchhiking ban. Henry Dodson of Marshalltown presides as the group plans to present petitions to the legislature, noting women outnumber men and are known as ride thumbers.
Storm Lake note: Godon Warner, 23, a farm laborer, was electrocuted nine miles north of Alta while connecting a motor driven pump on the Clarence Street farm. He was to be married next week. The body was taken to Holstein, his home.
John Springer, 85, former state legislator and longtime Iowa City Press co-owner from 1882 to 1894, died at his home from injuries after a fall earlier in the day. A Mason, he held a statewide reputation as a proof reader and spent his later years in the Masonic temple.
Mrs Catherine Miller of Spencer files for divorce from William Miller alleging he absconded with about $10 000 in property and cash. She seeks custody of two minor children and both temporary alimony of 1000 dollars and permanent alimony of 10000 dollars from his estate.
Harry L. Brown assistant secretary of agriculture and Dr. C. W. Warburton director of the USDA extension service will address the regional extension conference at Iowa State College. The program led by Rh K Hliss will cover clothing home furnishing forestry and rural youth work.
George T. Baker, president of the state board of education, warns against continued reduced appropriations for Iowa state colleges and university. He says taxpayers have supported higher education, but current business conditions do not justify further retrenchment.
Ames resident Justin McCarthy 50 hailed a Des Moines taxi and told driver Home James. within 32 miles the ride ended in Ames he left via rear exit and disappeared. Driver George Zook 22 filed a police complaint as authorities search for McCarthy who cites rain and no bus fare as motives.
Chicago reports a notorious suspect identified as Lewis Ebert a 27 year old robber who kidnapped and attacked Miss Ann Weimer and matched the killer of Mrs Mary Irwin. Detectives Ward and Lechert trapped him on a southwest side street and he fell shot after opening fire.
The Senate approved a $6.51284 billion naval appropriation by a 64 to 11 vote accelerating postwar expansion. The measure, supported by Senator Bone of Washington, continues large construction including two capital ships and auxiliary vessels with aircraft and gear. Senator Nye of North Dakota led opposition, warning the bill would spur a world armament race.
Raymond Moley former Roosevelt advisor and magazine editor denounces the president’s court plan as a “pig in a poke” likely to destroy democratic institutions and hinder progressive development. He testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee challenging his former chief.
Dr. William H. Phelps of Des Moines preached the second Holy Week sermon at United Presbyterian church titled One Who Spoke as No Man Ever Spoke. He argued Jesus did not lose authority, citing God rooted authority and Jesus’ intrinsic goodness, noting people remain aware of spiritual life and the power of Jesus. Ruth Stewart sang Jesus Only, as Rev. Stevens opened and Rev. Fulton closed the service.

Her extensive lecture and wheel demonstrations mark her as a leading cooking demonstrator.
Miss Larson brings unique menus and recipes not used in cooking schools. Her engaging personality draws favorable reports from other cities. The program runs daily until Friday with 3:30 dismissal and daily prizes. Free grocery baskets and foods prepared at the sessions will be awarded.
