Dr F C Redlich announced a marriage clinic in New Haven describing three stages: an owner’s manual for maintenance and service, help repairing damage, and a wrecking service for marriages that have broken up.
Washington merchants announce four days of Appreciation Days with daily prize drawings worth 800 dollars, a tractor rodeo on the square, free roller skating for schoolchildren, a farmer business dinner, and a style show plus a three day trade show at the county’s central park and surrounding venues.
Kenneth Allen Kitts of Otaha, convicted bank robber, was sentenced to an additional twenty years in federal prison to run concurrently with a two year term. He was brought to the Waterloo courtroom amid heavy guard by Lincoln Nebraska authorities and law officers.
In Panmunjom a fresh stalemate emerged over ports of entry as Communists proposed a scheme to shield Pyongyang from neutral observation and block Allied airfield traffic near Seoul. UN proposed keeping Seoul and Pyongyang plus Inchon and Chinnam- no in play. Talks adjourned after two hours and 16 minutes with no progress.

Striking workers at the International Harvester plant clash with police as non members try to enter. Several young women were pushed during the confrontation but no injuries were reported. AFL workers and 4,700 strikers protest after a barge shop employee was suspended and the company refuses to negotiate.
Voters faced rain as Minnesota held its presidential preferential primary with Republican options Harold Stassen Edward C Slettedal and a MacArthur stand in while Dwight D Eisenhower and Hubert Humphrey drew likely write ins. Kefauver also drew write ins though less heated as officials expected a light turnout.
Washington Junior Chamber of Commerce representatives met local business leaders in Washington to plan forming a Jaycee group in Columbus Junction. Phil Keen Bill Perdock Harry Levy and Don McClure attended with plans for state convention discussed. Eighty eight delegates are eligible to vote at the county convention.

Two Mt. Pleasant girls are in sheriff custody awaiting a juvenile court hearing on charges they took a car owned by Don Custer Friday night. The vehicle was later found stuck on a mud road eight miles south of Washington. The girls give conflicting stories with one denying help and the other naming a boy as an accomplice.
The Afghanistan government asserts that the state operates as a constitutional monarchy with defined limits on royal power and a framework of legal governance.
Local welfare offices announce increases in food allowances for old age assistance, aid to dependent children, and aid to the blind. A maximum medical allowance is set at 4 dollars per month for old age assistance recipients, with overall checks rising about 2 dollars monthly, subject to rounding.
In Key West Florida veteran lawmakers react to a new book Mr President by William Hillman claiming a sharp letter from Truman to James Byrnes. Byrnes denies ever hearing the letter and says Truman misrepresented events. The book also cites a proposed 17 year Senate tenure limit sparking wide congressional doubt.
Funeral services are planned in Columbus Junction for H. M. Gilkey 81 who died Monday in West Middlesex Pennsylvania. He ran a funeral parlor and furniture business and lived in this community earlier. He was born August 14 1863. He married Laura Johnston in 1895 who died in 1940. Survived by three sons Russell William H Ralph and three daughters Corinne Bermond Evelyn Coombs Lillian Maywell plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lizzie Meyer aged 80 died Monday March 10 at her son Walter Meyer's home in Quincy Illinois funeral services were held last Thursday She was born February 10 1872 in Washington daughter of Joseph and Mary Jane Scranton and was married to William Meyer on September 6 1905 He died in August 1936 She had lived in Quincy for several years and was aunt to Mrs Gick Mace and I R Scranton of Washington and a member of the Journal Three Quarter Century club.
A square dance will be held at the YMCA Friday night at 8 p m. The public is invited.
Washington reports FBI arrest of Benton Henry Robinson 65 Reno Kuest ranch handyman as seventh suspect in the Lavere V. Redfield burglary case. $56 751 recovered hidden in his living quarters wrapped in a pillowcase. Robinson linked to Jeanne Machaud tied to interstate transportation of stolen property. He claimed Machaud asked him to hold the money and said he could keep it if anything happened to her. Arraignment set before a U S commissioner in Reno.
Spencer won the first state high school basketball tournament game defeating Wales-Lincoln 41 to 39 on a last second field goal. Wales-Lincoln led 33 to 28 after the third period.
