Airline Hostess Cleared by Jury in Missouri Slaying
Betty Lou Tracy s 21 of St Louis was acquitted of murder in the self defense slaying of her married lover Lawrence Weil 46 Ozark Airlines supervisor. The Coroner's jury found she acted in self defense after Weil threatened torture over her relationships. Tracy did not testify but a signed police confession was read. Weil was shot six times outside her apartment and died at county hospital.

Over 8000 Visit New VA Hospital In Iowa City
More than 8,000 people toured the new 10 million Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa City during yesterday’s dedication events. The facility opened to patients on March 3 as the fourth VA hospital in the state, with about 50 patients admitted so far and a typical load of around 40.

Plan Speech Hearing Tests for Students in Washington County
Third sixth and ninth grade pupils in Washington county schools will undergo an annual speech and hearing screening in Wellman and Crawfordsville on Tuesday April 1. The program, part of the Division of Special Education, will be directed by Lester B Kra bill and Kiva Bramball with local supervisors Ray Witting and K K MacDonald directing at Wellman and Crawfordsville. Referrals will be checked, and all referrals include possible hearing loss, ear disease in the past year, or retest indication. All children will receive a speech test, a follow up is planned in about one month, and parents and teachers will be contacted for those who do not pass. A graduate speech therapist and hearing technician will administer both surveys and follow ups.

False Confession by Youth in Schuster Case

An automobile belonging to Don Custer of Washington was found Sunday morning eight miles south of town stuck in a mud road. It had been stolen from its Washington parking place Friday night or Saturday. The sheriff's office reports leads but no arrest. The car had been driven about 50 miles since the theft.
