Boggs punched in hotel dispute during Gridiron Club dinner
UPI reports Republican Edward A. Mitchell of Evansville Ind former congressman decked House Democratic Leader Hale Boggs in a Washington hotel mens room over remarks about the Nixon administration at the Washington Gridiron Club dinner. Mitchell’s wife said Boggs was knocked down and did not rise. She noted Mitchell, 56, a one term former congressman, was offended by Boggs comments. Cronkite said Boggs later threatened legal action and Mitchell replied he would meet him in court or in the gym.

In northeast Iowa the flood alert wanes after Monday’s cool down slows snowmelt.
