Highway Post Office Opens in Washington Saturday
A highway post office built on a standard bus body will be in front of the Washington post office Saturday for public inspection from 1:35 to 2:00 pm. The vehicle, painted blue with red trim, has pigeon holes for sorting mail and a forward drivers compartment. A similar unit will run between Des Moines and Shenandoah, traveling Des Moines to Muscatine and back, operated by the Des Moines Springfield and Southern Route bus company. These are the north central United States first highway post offices and they run daily except Sunday.
