W ATERLOO W L Fox 53 a veteran railroad conductor collapsed from a heart attack just as he prepared to board an Illinois Central freight train for his regular run. He died at a hospital before aid arrived. Fox had 736 years of service starting on the Des Moines Short Line between Mason City and Des Moines. He joined Illinois Central in 1910 and was a former Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen official.
In 1883 Chillicothe leaders extended the town limits to force saloons beyond the city. Now rural residents seek tax relief as Wapello County Attorney John Moon upholds incorporation and valid taxes.

Funeral services were held for Charles Elrod Dayton 81 at the Brighton Methodist Church with Rev. C.4 Coggeshall presiding. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dayton died Saturday after bronchial pneumonia, having been ill for a week and in declining health for months. Isaac L. Colthurst 84 exten sive landowner of Ainsworth died at his home four miles southeast yesterday after a paralytic stroke on March 3. Funeral at L A Jones funeral home Tuesday at 2 preceded by Rev Hemp hill and Rev Strong. Burial Camp ground cemetery. Survived by wife Bertha, daughters Cartie Pratt and Leena Crane, son Roger, and several grandchildren.
A theater roof weighed down by snow and ice, weakened by flames, collapsed during a general alarm fire in Brockton Massachusetts. At least 12 firefighters are dead and many more injured with two or three feared buried under debris at the Strand theater.
Brollier had lived in the home and cared for him during his illness. He is survived by a son Cleveland of Ottumwa, a daughter Mrs. O W Knappe of Beards town Illinois, Mrs. Brollier a foster daughter, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for B S Gregory will be held Tuesday at 2 PM at Sherman’s funeral home in Washington with Dr R C Keagy of the Methodist church in charge. Burial will be in Keota cemetery. He died Saturday at 4 30 PM at his home after a heart ailment. He was born March 21 1874 in Keota and lived in Keota West Chester Washington and Young America before moving to Washington ten days ago. Surviving are his wife a daughter and two sons and five grandchildren. He also leaves a brother and a sister.
The War Department reports the U S Army surpassed one million men for the first time since the world war reaching 1,003,500 officers and enlisted. The figure includes regulars guardsmen reserves on active duty and selective trainees with 68,500 officers and 935,000 enlisted personnel. The army aims for 1,418,000 by July 1.

A Brownwood clipping notes a 57 mile convoy of 231 vehicles from Camp Bowie heading to Fort Sill Oklahoma to aid the 45th division move to Camp Barkeley. Troops from Cavalry Quartermaster and other services accompany the convoy with radio equipped cars and a 5 mph pace on good roads.
