Sioux City experienced a five minute blackout Friday night after a pet cat chasing birds became tangled in wires at the main supply station of the Sioux City Gas and Electric Co. The cat died.

United States Circuit Judge Charles Frais sitting as a district judge ruled Congress has no power to fix wages and hours for intrastate business. The decision denied a federal injunction against the National Garment Company and National Underwear Corporation of St Louis to compel compliance with NRA code. The companies had challenged the NRA on fifteen grounds including self created group regulations. The ruling prevents enforcement of code hours and minimum wage provisions for the two companies.
Noon reports indicate no contest in the city election. Mayor Lloyd Lytie and current council members appear set for re election with no other tickets filed. Nomination petitions must be filed today to print names on the ballot and no caucuses or circulating petitions were observed.

In Cleveland Ohio an accounting for profits and an injunction restraining defendants from further using equipment alleged to infringe a patent is sought.
MUSCATINE The county emergency relief committee Sued notice that persons now on relief rolls who refuse permanent jobs will be immediately dropped from further benefits of the relief committee. The committee will continue its policy of encouraging acceptance of temporary employment without endangering the status of relief recipients.
Jack Myers aged 17 is named Iowa's youngest weather observer. Son of Dr and Mrs E M Myers, he works at a station at Ledges park and follows his father who chairs the state health board.
Stout City reports the appointment of Frank W. Cannon of Onawa as a deputy United States marshal announced by Marshal John B. Keefe. Cannon will replace F. Holly of Stony City who is headed to Canada.
The World Day of Prayer was observed by Washington church women at St Pauls Evangelical with Mrs C W Klein presiding. Miss Ida Friesen spoke on Women of India born to missionary parents in India, introduced by Mrs C A Owen. The service ran from 2 to 3 pm.
Des Moines Governor Clyde L. Herring directed the state board of control to investigate the soldier’s home in Marshalltown after the house voted to table a resolution by Senator Reece of Marshalltown calling for a full legislative inquiry into the facility.
Fairfield Iowa March 9 Judge Elmer B Dougherty in district court ruled that section ten of the new foreclosure extension law is unconstitutional It voids requiring notices of a definite time and place for defendants to appear and file for continuance until March 1937 The decision leaves intact the law's overall benefits passed by the legislature this session
Washington voters may cast ballots Monday at city hall from noon to seven for the school board. Incumbents Dr. T. J. Pease and Claude W. Tucker face no official opposition on the ballot.
Rev. H. Vietheer, president and founder of the Elem churches in Germany, arrives in the United States and will address the Foursquare Gospel church Monday at 7:30 with an interpreter. He will discuss conditions in Germany and is expected to give an illuminating talk.

Word came at 12 30 today of the death of Mrs Katherine Phillips a widow of Earl B K Phillips aged about 50 at the Sunnyslope Sanitarium in Ottumwa. The body will be taken to Sherman s funeral home for arrangements. She was a daughter of Mrs Dick Bidwell whose death occurred here two weeks ago.
On Tuesday evening March 12 the Better Riverside club will hold its regular monthly dinner and meeting at St Mary’s hall. Special guests include Coach Rollie Williams of the Iowa University basketball team and star players John Barke and John Grimm.

Twenty two doctors attended including out of town specialists from Columbus Junction Wayland Richland Fairfield Keota and more. Miss Dessa Shaw hospital superintendent met with them. Following the demonstration the regular staff meeting was held.
Government airplanes bombarded rebel forces in Macedonia at the start of a decisive offensive against Venizelos led movement. Bombers also targeted the Venizelos home and rebel HQ in Crete as part of a three pronged push, with efforts extending toward the Bulgarian frontier amid Balkan tension.

Jack Francisco of Oskaloosa starts as a new clerk at the J. C. Penney Co. store in town. He previously worked part time at the Oskaloosa Penney location while living at the YMCA and coaching athletic activities for grade school boys. He is staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Dayton.
A Republican drive to back Huey P. Long's demands for an investigation of Postmaster General James A. Farley formed as the Senate Post Office Committee recommended against proceeding. Senator Carter Glass of Virginia announced plans to press elimination of extraneous matter during appropriation debates.
Mrs. F. A. Pauley of Iowa City and Mrs. Robert Applegate of West Liberty visited Thursday evening with Mrs. Karl Crossett while their husbands attended the Railway Expressmen meeting.
Iowa legislature considers a bill creating a state liquor damage fund funded by four percent of the liquor control commission monthly receipts. A supervisor would administer the fund with a $4000 annual salary and power to hire staff, retain a physician, and pay death and injury claims from drunken driving incidents.
Havana reports the Cuban government prolongs suspension of constitutional laws and calls out army reserves for a finish fight with revolutionary strikers. The death penalty is restored and President Men dieta is authorized to use it as needed. Immunity for government employees is declared for those attacking strikers. Police restrict street gatherings to two people. Port workers and rail workers joined the strike.
Mrs. Anna Springer and her brother Lloyd Robertson will open a beauty shop in early April in the Lemmon building room behind the new shoe store. They recently completed beauty work at a Des Moines school, passed state board examinations, and received their operators licenses.
Mrs Richard Johnson recently discharged from hospital after pneumonia. She is gradually recuperating at home and not yet able to be up and around.
The church schedules a Sunday evening men’s night and a Monday Brotherhood banquet. Speaker Dwight Krumholtz, a Cedar Rapids attorney, will discuss The Trial of Jesus from a Lawyer’s Point of View. Banquet tickets cost 25 cents and are available from local leaders.
