A blaze discovered around 1 AM at the Colenso hotel was quickly controlled by the fire department using chemical extinguishers. Arthur Ellsworth Wead aged 56 died at midnight at his home north of Washington after years of ill health. Funeral services are set for 2 PM Saturday at Sherman’s funeral home with Pastor Fr Eastwood of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery. He was born July 8 1876 in Cedar township to J C F Wead and (Smythe) Wead and lived on a farm north of town since childhood. He married Bessie Ritchey March 31 1904 and leaves a widow four children Robert Stockport Iowa Earl Chicago Mrs Alice Goff Washington and Ruth at home two grandchildren and a brother. A longtime Presbyterian and local trustee he also belonged to the Washington chapter of the Sons of Union Veterans.
