Escape at Oakdale Prison Farm Narrowly Misses Capture
Two lower formatory trustees escaped from the state sanatorium at Oakdale around midnight Monday and remained at large Tuesday. The fugitives are George Clark, 22, of Keokuk, 6 feet 1 inch, 155 pounds, light brown hair and blue eyes, and Karl Gale, 20, from Imogene, 5 feet 6 inches, 125 pounds, also with light brown hair and blue eyes.

Witnesses Hear False Arrest Trial In Fort Dodge
First witnesses in Gale Johnsons ten thousand dollar false arrest suit against Fort Dodge police Chief Everett Markle and Capt. W L Gormally testified Tuesday. Johnson contends officers entered his home without a warrant at 2 a m July 17 and arrested him over burglaries by a gang of boys. Police say a 14 year old gang leader named Johnson identified him and pointed out the house. District Judge Sherwood A Cleek ordered the boy returned from Kildara to testify.

He expects another package that day and asks for belief in his letter. Jan 20 update confirms he was still missing with no new word.

Sergeant Morrison Reported Missing in Action Over Germany
Mr and Mrs Loyd Morrison of Grinnell earlier Washington residents were notified by the war department that their son S/Sergeant James L Morrison has been missing in action over Germany since February 16. Morrison served as a gunner on a bomber with the 8th RAF after going overseas last fall and had just returned from a furlough in England days before the engagement. The Morrison family formerly lived here while Mr Morrison managed the Iowa Continental Telephone company.

J O Matthews 89 Dies at Home in Washington County
James O Matthews, age 89, died at 1 15 this morning at his home on 73S South Iowa Avenue after a long bedfast period from a fractured hip suffered May 19 last year. Funeral at L A Jones funeral home Friday at 2 pm with Rev George Kerr. burial in Ainsworth cemetery. He was a longtime resident of Ainsworth and Washington County, born Oct 4 1860 in Indiana County Pennsylvania, emigrated to Iowa at age nine, and lived near Ainsworth before moving to Washington 14 years ago. Survived by wife Laura McMillan, daughter Mrs John A Muir of Lewiston Maine, sister Mrs Jennie Acheson of Arlington Massachusetts, two grandchildren Laura O Mair and James A Mair. He was a longtime member of local Presbyterian churches and a Three-Quarter Century Club member.

Mrs. Harry Ortez Dies at About 45 in Menlo Kane
