Commercial florists from Iowa and nearby states will converge at Iowa State College on Thursday and Friday for the tenth annual commercial florists short course.
About eighty lawyers from the second Iowa judicial district gathered in Ottumwa for the first session of a series of legal institutes. Speakers included W. K. Carr of Charles City and Prof. Leland B. Forrest of Drake University in Des Moines.

Five year old Jimmy Hodges lay in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a collision near his home Monday noon. He attempted to outrun a slow moving truck driven by Fred Resch. the boy slipped and was pinned against the curb, resulting in amputation of his right leg below the knee.
DES MOINES state investigator to probe complaints by Wapello county relief and WPA clients and workers this week. A E MicheI, assistant works progress engineer for Iowa, said. The Ottumwa Trades and Labor assembly telegrammed relief and WPA officials to reveal facts stating politics and discrimination exist in Wapello county relief unless an investigator is sent.
Iowa State College students entering the engineering hall found two horses tethered in a corridor with straw, and four manure spreaders outside. After a faculty conference the blame was placed on Alpha Zeta pledges, canceling the Alpha Zeta banquet and signaling further discipline for the fraternity.
Four children perished in a highway fire after a crash left John E. Brown aged 67 in critical condition at the county hospital. He was struck by a pickup driven by Daniel Miller of Wellman while crossing near Ainsworth. Brown suffered a severe brain concussion and other injuries. Miller did his best to avoid the collision.
Mahatma Gandhi ended his 98 hour fast in Rajkot today after Indian and British governments intervened to secure terms for liberal reforms. The settlement reportedly includes a chief justice led inquiry into charges against Rajkot's ruler.

Tom Bowden of Kirksville Missouri visited his mother Mrs Wanda Bowden and returned to Kirksville State Teachers College where he is a sophomore after a weekend with family.
Columbus Junction reports two local deaths David McRoberts age ninety died at his daughter’s home after a heart attack. Funeral plans are set at Ritchie funeral home with burial in Columbus City cemetery. Surviving relatives include three sons and three daughters with several grandchildren. Fred Morrison sixty four died after a long illness at his southeast Columbus Junction residence. Burial details to be announced.
A March 7 blaze on a south Mt. Ayr farm killed four Morse children aged 17, 15, 16 months and 5 while their mother Mrs Milo Morse 36 suffered serious burns. The kerosene explosion ignited the kitchen stove and flames swept the two older girls and mother upstairs.
AAA contacts report over 1 000 county farmers have been reached about the 1939 federal benefit program. About 86.6 percent of those seen favor participation, with county-wide interviews to finish by early April. Columbus Junction resident Morri son is survived by his wife Rhoda Marion and seven daughters and three sons. The list includes John and Lee of Columbus Junction, Dale of New Boston, Helen Lillian Marian Mrs Max Mond, Mrs Raymond Wit of Columbus Junction, Na Martin of Wapello, Knowlton Fletcher and others. Grandchildren and great grandchildren also noted.
