Kenneth Lazen, a farmer west of Keosauqua, collected a $31 bounty for 31 starlings. Fort Madison reports Trustees of Eden Chapel found thieves had removed the church cornerstone and stolen contents including coins and records from the abandoned brick church, empty for 18 years.
Charles City man W D Reed aged 69 from Nora Springs recovered in Cedar Valley Hospital after weeks on crutches for a broken left hip he suffered when he fell at home and did not know the injury.
Otto H. Boeck 74, Nashua farmer, died of local pneumonia at Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City. His two sons Arthur and John were patients in the same room and are also stricken with the same illness.
Fairfield native Joe Crail died Wednesday in Los Angeles after a heart attack. A California congressman for 12 years, his final term ended six years ago. Born December 24, 1877 in Fairfield, he graduated from Drake University in 1898.
Burlington officials confirm three men discharged after a wreck that killed six. Superintendent J C Grissinger would not confirm further dismissals. Ben Gardner, a switchman, is named as one of those discharged for his warning cries that helped shop men jump to safety.
Kenneth M. Thomas, a Harrison county farmer, sues Jas McGinty for 207.50 alleging a gate left open let two Thames horses into a corn crib where they overate and fell ill. One horse valued at 200 died. 7.50 covers medical care for the survivor.

The body of 60 year old farmer George Stucker was found beside his wagon on a road two miles from his home. His nephew Wayne Stucker discovered him with the team still attached, the horses having stood all day. The incident occurred as Stucker intended to cut wood after leaving home for lunch.
Des Moines report says Iowa health officials announce a new drive to curb scarlet fever. Dr Walter L Bierring health commissioner explains a home notice system and isolation measures for symptomatic individuals, cutting the previous 21 day quarantine.
Miss Ethel Grecian and Miss Helen Creswell completed a WPA report for Washington County. It notes school additions in Kalona and Riverside, the Grace Hill quarry, road graveling, a sewing room, barbary eradication, courthouse cleaning, and park improvements in 1937. Projects covered summer work but winter demand outpaced supply, with county funds fully contributed and non revenue producing improvements benefiting school districts.
Funeral services for Miss Lake Doolittle are scheduled Sunday at 2 30 PM at the Fremont Iowa Baptist church with Rev. F Fredmund of Washington Baptist church officiating, burial in Fremont cemetery. The 71 year old former Fremont native taught at a teachers college in Cleveland Mississippi and earlier at Heights school and Kirkville Missouri. Surviving sisters are Margaret Doolittle Hattie Funk Ruth Triplett and Clyde V. Brown.

He has run a lumber and coal business in Williamsburg for 30 years and operates two farms.
An A M E church conference will be held at the church this evening at 7 30. Pastor W M Berry urges all members to attend for important business.
The Washington Hustler 4-H Club held a Tuesday meeting at Eugene Heatle’s home with twelve members present. Officers elected for the next year were Robert Macon president John Killian vice president Arthur Bishop secretary treasurer Russell Miller historian Robert McLaughlin reporter. Arthur Bishop spoke on a special leaders meeting after the election and W. J. Roudabush announced prize changes for future 4-H shows.
Three damage suits filed in district court allege injuries and property loss from a Nov 1 collision east of Washington. Marshall Koehler seeks 2000 dollars for his injuries and car damage. John H Simmering seeks 1000 for his son Donald’s injuries in the Koehler car. Ida King seeks 5222.15 against William Livezey and others for injuries from a Dec 30 1937 bus collision between a Wellman Iowa City route bus and a Schnechert vehicle.
Addie McGrew 67 longtime resident of Cotter Gladwin and Columbus Junction died at Muscatine about 2:30 am at her niece Mrs A J Greiner’s home. Funeral services planned for Columbus Junction Methodist church with burial at Anna Worth cemetery. Born June 18 1870 Rust Run Ohio she had lived in Gladwin and Columbus Junction areas. Survived by sister Mrs E A Sheets of Wheeling West Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
