Weather Ahead for Iowa Partly Cloudy with Warm Inland

Crop meetings to start soon in Crawfordsville series
March 3 launches a Washington County Extension Service education series on Getting Greater Profits from Corn and Beans at the Crawfordsville School Lunch Room. Agronomist Garren Benson will discuss higher profits from corn acres followed by topics on soybeans oats forages crop methods and a weed and insect control program with Extension specialists. Continuous sessions run March 3 10 and 24 with an additional Kalona series starting March 7 and a county wide weed and insect control meeting March 17 in Washington.

Five Die In Iowa Traffic Crashes Monday
Five people died in Iowa traffic accidents Monday. In Davenport two crashes claimed three lives just before midnight, while a wrong way collision on a four lane highway killed three and critically injured a fourth. A motorcycle crash near Clarinda killed a young college student.

Johnson outlines health program for all citizens
President Johnson sent a broad plan to Congress to insure full education and good health for every citizen. He proposed reorganizing HEW health functions, grants for state and community health planning, and revitalizing obsolete hospitals. He urged shifting school lunch funds to feed disadvantaged children and to provide hot breakfasts, while maintaining $379 million for school lunch programs. He directed development of meal services for the elderly and a center for alcoholism research, and called for more federal birth control research funding.
