Chicago March wheat jumped to 2.62 a bushel on the Chicago board, a 27 year high. The prior day hit 2.53, with the all time high 2.75 in 1920. No. 2 red wheat cash sold at 2.63, highest since 1920 as corn also rose amid a Washington inquiry. Traders expect a government investigation to ensure prices are in line.
Fred Burger celebrates eight years of running Burger Produce. He previously worked two years with Gibson Produce and six months as manager for the Iowa Poultry Producers Association before starting his own house. The shop has occupied the same location across from the post office since its opening.

Chicago March 1 The National Safety Council reports a sharp drop in traffic fatalities with January deaths at 2,370, down 22 percent from December and 15 percent below January 1946. If the trend continues and travel stays high, 1947 deaths may total about 31,000, the council said.
