Hoover urges new foreign relief funds and flexible controls
Former president Herbert Hoover urged Congress to appropriate 350 million dollars more for foreign relief with flexibility to recapture unneeded funds. He proposed prompt repayment, end-or-adjust authority, and a review after the 1947 harvest, plus total foreign relief between 1.2 and 1.5 billion for 1948. He warned U.S. taxes still take about 35 percent of national income two years after the war. He also recommended 475 million each from the United States and Britain to feed Germans in occupation zones for 18 months beginning January 1.

Davenport Man Dies From Injuries After Car Incident
Howard Young 51 of Davenport died from injuries after being thrown from a speeding car on Feb 16. Irene Hanley 42 was also involved and treated for shook and exposure before being released. A youth allegedly drove them to a tavern outside the city. Young sustained broken ribs and a fractured leg, dying of pneumonia.
