Muscatine Centennial Celebration Drenched by Rain

Rain dampened Muscatine's centennial program on Wednesday as Governor Herring canceled his address and Lieutenant Governor Kraschel spoke to hundreds at the First Baptist Church. A pageant at Jefferson Field traced the city’s 100-year history, highlighting early settlers Farnham and James W. Casey, the Mississippi River’s influence, and Muscatine’s Civil War and World War records. Aquaplane exhibitions and a Venetian parade closed the day amid a crowd of about 500 paraders and 50 floats. Frank M. Myers organized the five day celebration for the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce.
