Keokuk Dam Excursion Reveals Massive Power Project
An excursion organized by the United Presbyterians on Tuesday July 6 will showcase the Keokuk dam under construction. The base and foundations on the Iowa side near the lower canal lock rise in concrete piers over fifty feet wide. The power house spans 14 acres at the river bed, with vast tunnels and forms of concrete for the turbines. Precise concrete work requires exact shaping, and the project will ultimately provide flood gates, a foot and wagon bridge, and hydroelectric power measured by the electric current generated.
