Democratic National Convention Ballots Through the Tenth

Rebel Chief Is Slain in Cuban Rebellion Verdict

General Estenoz died with about 100 Cuban insurgents at Vega Bellaco near Micara in Oriente. Government troops under Lieutenant de la Torre reported the win. It is believed General Pedro Ivonez may also be dead. Havana says Estenez death ends the rebellion and Oriente will be pacified within two days.

Recall of federal judges and banking plank cause party split

At the Democratic convention site in Baltimore on June 29 the platform drafting subcommittee debated a proposed recall of federal judges by constitutional amendment. The labor plank drew protests from employers, while Bryan steered a progressive platform, and a banking section urged limiting national bank investments in stocks and bonds to one third of their loans and investments.
