A representative of the Iowa Department of Revenue will visit Washington County towns to assist with sales tax permits gambling licenses withholding applications canceling business terminations and delinquent tax collection. In Washington the agent is available Thursdays noon to 2 p.m. at McCreedy Building upstairs rooms 210 West Main Wellman city hall Wednesdays 10 to 11 30 a.m. and Kalona City Hall 1 to 3 p.m.

Fire Kills 42 at Maury County Jail in Tennessee
A pad filled cell fire at the Maury County Jail during visiting hours killed 42 people and left 33 injured as authorities examine foam padding for a toxic agent. An emotionally disturbed youth, Andy Zimmer, 16, is suspected of starting the blaze in his cell with possible help from a visitor. Firemen and deputies rescued inmates and visitors as the cross-shaped jail filled with gas and smoke.
