Head on crash injures two near Haskins
A rural Ainsworth woman Linda M Short 24 and her six year old daughter Megan 6 were seriously injured in a head on collision three miles northeast of Haskins on a gravel road. Linda Short and Megan were taken to University Hospitals Iowa City with severe facial lacerations. Terry L Becker 17 of rural Ainsworth drove a pickup and admitted himself to Washington County Hospital with minor injuries. Charges are pending.

Three Illinois Men Bodies Found in Mississippi River
Three bodies found floating in the Mississippi River near the Lyons Bridge are believed to be Illinois men who disappeared in water two days earlier. Fishermen spotted two bodies Friday night, an Iowa officer located the third early today as they were taken to Fulton, Illinois for identification.

Record seed plots expand at Farm Progress Show in Washington county
More plant variety plots are seeded for the Farm Progress Show site eight miles north of Washington. A total of 385 seed corn varieties from 39 companies, 152 soybean varieties from 23 firms, 70 alfalfa varieties from 18 companies, and 97 grain sorghum varieties from 17 firms are on display.
