Ben Het siege continues as cargo planes drop supplies

Surplus figures vary for Iowa state budget

Des Moines UPI reports state surplus estimates for the fiscal biennium differ. Legislative Fiscal Analyst Gerry Rankin places the expected leftover at about 9.9 million, while the state comptroller’s office cites a 3 million surplus. Rankin notes the gap stems from using adjusted versus initial appropriations and explains many appropriations are guesses. The actual surplus will be known after July 1.

Paris UPI reported that Allied and Communist negotiators said the Vietnam peace talks were completely deadlocked after the 23rd session. The Communist delegation warned time is running out for America in the war, while the American side accused the Communists of non negotiation and insisted on coalition government terms being rejected.

Soviet seeks broad Asian security alignment to deter China

London dispatch says the Soviet Union has launched a diplomatic drive for a wide Asia wide collective security system. The plan would include India, Ceylon and Mongolia in a nonaggression and economic cooperation pact backed by Moscow.
