Newton P Taylor 92 civil war veteran divides time between his daughters homes Mrs Julia C Black Newton and a daughter Fairfield will leave Marshalltown for the national Blue and Gray encampment at Gettysburg Penn His son Clifton Taylor of Marshalltown will accompany him.
Mrs. Hesseltine Wilson owner of a Lineville variety store reports a prowler tore a hole in her window screen and threw a kerosene filled fruit jar into her room before fleeing. Officers caution the brick block could burn rapidly in the attack.
Perrigo and Woolery, both ages in the late twenties, received ten year terms for the June 1 robbery of the J. J. Roushar store in Victor. About $400 in goods and a $350 cash register were taken. some merchandise was sold and the register dumped into Hilton Creek east of Marengo. The register and part of the goods were recovered. Judge James P. Gaffney imposed the sentence.
A father Henry Heying surrendered his son Norbert 34 to police for murder charges after Norbert allegedly killed Irma Heying 39. Norbert had been on the run for 19 days since June 6 while the couple’s four children were left motherless. The suspect shot himself twice during the incident and was hospitalized after bullets were removed.
Cherokee Wayne Libolt a one to two year old farm hand was crushed to death between two autos here. His brother James 21 watched as Wes Sleezer changed a tire and a car driven by Raymond Hurd 43 struck the parked car pinning Libolt between them. He died about ten minutes after the accident.
Des Moines report reveals a Des Moines river island of about nine and a half acres remains federal property. Daisy Johnson’s lawsuit to claim the land led to a land office search confirming federal ownership near the city limits.
Sheriff reports a dropped cigarette lighter caused a collision near Ottumwa Mahaska county injuring six people including John Wormhoudt his wife and two sons Jess Allender and Carl Blythe plus others. The Wormhoudt Lumber Co. president was involved in the crash.

Elmer Cherry, 67, died shortly before 2 PM at his home three and a half miles northwest of town after an illness dating from last Thursday. The body was taken to Sherman’s funeral home where funeral plans will be announced tomorrow. Cherry resided most of his life in the northwest section and was widely known locally.

Mrs. Charles Droll aged 94 and Riverside’s oldest resident died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs R A Keittel after a four week bed illness following a May 29 hip fracture. Native of Alsace Lorraine born May 28 1844 she came to America at one year old and lived in Riverside 93 years. She and her first husband Yfenny Streb raised twelve children. Survived by seven children 39 grandchildren 31 great grandchildren a sister and a brother. Funeral Wednesday at St Marys Church with burial in Mt Olivet.
President Roosevelt stood beside the Chrestiania river in Wilmington to celebrate 300 years since Swedish settlers landed in America. He pledged continued US Finland Sweden friendship for world peace as rain interrupted the event with the DuPont home as a backdrop. Prince Bertil and Crown Princess Louise were delayed aboard a Swedish steamer due to the weather.
Lewis Stafford McKay 55 born in Washington and later Davenport resident died Saturday in Chicago after being struck by a train while working as a crossing flagman for the Rock Island. Funeral and burial planned in Chicago. He served 30 to 35 years with the Rock Island railway and had lived in Chicago about twelve years. His wife Alma Jehring died in 1922. two sons Earl and Marion live nearby. McKay had two living brothers Frank and J C in Washington. two brothers Harry and Eli and sisters Grace and Ela are deceased.
Physicians from Henry Jefferson and Washington counties forming the Tri County Medical Society plan a Tuesday evening gathering in Washington. A 6 30 dinner at the North Side restaurant precedes a program with Dr. C Conzett of Dubuque presenting Hip Fractures. About thirty doctors are expected, led by Dr. David H King of Batavia.

Peter N Jacobsen, 70, operator of a large Davenport cigar factory, died in Mercy hospital after a year of failing health post surgery. Des Moines reports two brothers shot by police in Illinois are suspected in the June 16 North English bank robbery. Iowa investigator chief W. W. Akers planned to send a state agent to Joliet prison hospital to question the wounded man.
June 27 in district court 42 year old Cresser Norton admitted slaying his cousin 50 year old Alva Carder. Norton asked for time to enter a plea after confession following three days of questioning. W A Hunt Ottumwa lawyer appointed as defense counsel. Norton said he shot Carder near a one man coal mine he leased from the plaintiff.
