Washington June 27 The Senate debated a veterans pension measure as President Hoover indicated approval for the Johnson compromise. The House passed the bill yesterday strengthening disability allowances from 12 to 400 dollars monthly. The finance committee met in executive session to hear testimony and consider the Walsh Connally substitute as observers expect action soon.

Mrs Winter to be Buried in Washington Cemetery
Mrs Mare S Winter formerly of Washington on West Hutchinston Street died Thursday at her Columbus home. Her son Nelson B Winker in Columbus reports the body will be brought to Washington for burial in the cemetery with time of services not yet set.

Mrs Athern dies at 90 in county home
Mrs Anna Athern 90 died today at the county home where she had lived for years. The widow of Samuel Athern who died twenty years ago she was born in New York state daughter of William and Susan Pay one of eleven children. The family came west in early days and she married here later moving to Ainsworth. She is survived by one brother Asher Pay of Long Beach California and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements pending arrival of a Minnesota niece.

Woman Killed in Early Morning Ottumwa Crash
Mrs. D. M. Hammack, 65, of Ottumwa, died after a crash on No. 1 highway when gravel caused the car to skid into a ditch. Her husband suffered a broken arm and shoulder. Calvert, her brother, was uninjured. The vehicle veered while en route to Cedar Rapids. Hammond died before reaching hospital. Congressman Stephen G. Porter aged 62 died at 2:40 am in Allegheny General Hospital after a several month illness. Porter, of the 32nd Pennsylvania district, had been in a Pittsburgh hospital three weeks following treatment in Washington for a liver disease. Risden Warns of Increase in Crime in Iowa
