Red Cross swim program reaches 944 participants at Washington pool
The annual American Red Cross program at Washington Municipal pool enters its third week with 944 boys enrolled. Volunteers run the course with instructors, swimmer aides, water safety staff, a recorder, and basket monitors. Riverside leads with 157 participants, followed by Wellman 144 and Kalona 139. Other communities contribute Washington 96 Rural 94 Ainsworth 63 Brighton 79 Crawfordsville 75 and 97 in intermediate and swimmer classes.

Weather balloon lands on Garrett farm near Wayland
A U S Weather Bureau balloon fell to the ground on the Garrett farm three miles southeast of Wayland at 2 p m on Wednesday. The red plastic balloon carried a water filled bag and an information card asking for its return to the Weather Bureau Research Station in Las Vegas, Nevada where the flight originated covering over 1000 miles.

Chamber official rescues robin nest in Central Park
Secretary Hubert Lehrer answered a park call and rescued a robin nest in the southeast corner of Central Park. An empty coffee can was wired to a tree trunk to relocate the nest containing three fledglings. The mother robin cared for her young in the new location.
