A LeMars column notes Wolf the shepherd dog repeatedly rode in a car to a rural farm ten miles away and then walked back to sit on the doorstep of P. H. Peterson. Peterson had taken Wolf in as a stray three years ago and now consents to keep the faithful animal.
District Judge Dan Hamilton of Grinnell is hospitalized in Rochester Minnesota after a facial growth required removal of his right ear. His condition is described as serious.
Valentine known as Candy began a 30 day jail term for intoxication and disturbing the peace after a family scuffle that left him struck in the forehead. his wife complained about his conduct at home.
Sterling Mackney, 29, of Davenport, killed himself with a revolver after visiting his father in law and asking his estranged wife for a ride. Police say she refused, and he fired the shot.
Mrs Frank Cass of Moscow won the Iowa farm women's public speaking contest at Iowa State College where 26 contestants spoke on What can we expect from rural America. She will represent Iowa in the national contest with Mrs Jane White of Oakland placing second.
Funeral arrangements were being made for Merlen Van Horn after a fire at his farm home south of town. The boy and his sister Donna six fled as the father and another man reportedly started a fire in a nearby hotel. A gasoline can ignited and struck the boy full on.
A 4 year old girl Georgetta Praneces Chase died after emergency appendectomy. Surgeons found her heart on the right side of the body and the appendix on the left side indicating situs inversus.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Vodicka senior were held this afternoon at 2 o clock in Richmond Methodist Church. She died Tuesday evening at 5 45 in Washington County Hospital. Barbara Havranek was born.
Washington County hosts Democratic and Republican county conventions Saturday at 11 AM. Democrats meet at city hall to organize and nominate candidates for several offices and elect delegates to the state convention. Republicans convene in the county court room to choose delegates and a board of supervisors candidate, with a potential outside speaker lobby.
Michael Greiner 73 died at home in Keota after a long illness. He lived in Keota about ten years, retired from farming. Survived by widow Caroline Conrad. seven sons William John Albert Michael Jr Leonard Bernard all in Keota. Charles in Washington. five daughters including Mrs Sieren and sisters Mary Licinia and Mary Marmemia in Dubuque. Five brothers and two sisters also survive. Funeral in Church of St Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception with Rev Carter Thoman.
In Bohemia on November 11, 1854, she died at 79 after coming to the United States about 65 years ago. Her home was in the Kalona vicinity. She had been ill only a few days and was taken to the hospital last Saturday. Survived by husband, daughter Mrs Milt Navy of Kalona, two sons Frank and Joe, with one son having died in the World War.
Des Moines reports audits urge immediate review of the liquor commission trucking contract, seek rate reductions. The $97,669 1935 payout covers liquor transport at 29 cents a case with a June 1, 1937 expiration. Chairman Manley says no negotiations will be pursued or other audit recommendations acted on.
Washington county supervisors approved a 1936 road program totaling 48 projects prepared by County Engineer W. P. Rawn. The program allocates 35 percent of funds to township roads and the rest to county trunk roads. Notices to bidders outline 22 culverts, one Dutch Creek bridge, grading and surfacing work, with details in the published notices.

A Richmond community event by the Anti-Saloon League presents a timely stage drama in the Methodist church on Friday June 26 at 8 o clock. The play portrays a liquor influenced fatal high speed crash into a street car safety zone and a subsequent court case demanding punishment. Mrs George Yeager of Crawfordsville was seen shopping in Washington today as she visited local stores and ran errands with her companion.
Zeva Marie Bush, 37, died last evening at Washington county hospital after a week long illness. A former 484 stenographer in Muscatine for twelve years she left work months ago due to poor health. Funeral services set for Saturday at 10:30 am at Kalona Methodist Church with burial in Kalona Cemetery. Born November 22, 1899 in Kalona she was the daughter of Charles and Florence Snider Bush. Survived by mother, three sisters Art Sadel Muscatine Russell Chorpening and Roy Kuntz of Washington, brother Francis Bush of Washington, one sister Arlene and her father are deceased, grandmother Mrs. Margaret Bush of Iowa City.
Senator Joseph T. Robinson of Arkansas spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia promising the Roosevelt New Deal will maintain a sound currency and eventually balance the federal budget. He praised the New Deal, attacked Republicans, and defended court decisions while urging adherence to the party platform amid party tensions.
Philadelphia June 25 The Democratic National Convention recessed for eight hours amid fights over the platform including a two thirds rule for nomination and wage laws for women. Secretary Wallace urged a agriculture plank while others push for sound money and anti inflation commitments as Roosevelt dictates hover over drafting group.
The rules committee approved replacing the two thirds standard with a majority rule for nominating candidates. The change passed 36 to 1 with New York, Massachusetts, and Indiana opposing. Southern delegates vow to contest the move while several states abstained or were absent.
Senator Carter Glass of Virginia arrived in Washington furious at press reports that he left the Democratic convention in Philadelphia. He dismissed the claims as nonsense and said he came to attend personal matters while reaffirming support with Senator Byrd.
