Employment office reports better activity this week

In Washington County this summer the employment supervisor notes improved agency activity but says many more calls for workers could be handled. Miss Wittetoe thanks employers who hired youth and urges others to call if they need help, especially for more applications from boys seeking work.

County field clinics on corn borers and crop problems

County Extension Director Jim Frier hosts three field crop clinics this week to address corn borers and related insect and disease issues in corn and beans. Washington County farmers are urged to bring questions, with locations at Bob Bonar farm near Crane Plant, Freel farm near West Chester, and Dale Roberts farm near Ainsworth School.

Riverside annual celebration sponsored by VFW and Chamber

Morning Sun Fire Destroys Home in Overloaded Wiring Blaze

A Morning Sun family of 10 was left homeless after a Monday fire likely sparked by overloaded wiring consumed the W. D. Harris residence. Fire Chief Delmer Johnston said the attic and roof were engulfed before firefighters arrived.

Morrison to Take Bench After Leaving Private Practice

Judge Morrison ready to leave Washington County Attorney post and close his private practice as he prepares to assume the Sixth Judicial District judgeship. Appointed by Governor Ray, he will take the bench July 1 and follow a summer round robin schedule visiting his home town and other counties. Morrison will face a changing district as ten counties shift under new arrangements, with Jasper moving out and five more joining. he notes early duties include impaneling a grand jury and adjusting to staff transitions.

Washington Community School budget approved for 1971-72
