Chicago notes show a Roosevelt convention in progress with chairs being placed at the First Regiment Armory and police protection requested. Chairman Root calls to order, minority reports debated, and credentials issues loom as press wires prepare to relay developments from a second convention.
Washington representative Dovell argues for the majority on credentials. Hadley proposes that contested delegates cannot vote on the credentials report until seated. Root rules the convention may vote. Watson moves to table. The chair rules Alabama contested delegates cannot vote on the motion to table. other contested delegates may vote.
Former Judge Alton B. Parker was chosen as temporary chairman by the arrangements committee amid opposition from William J. Bryan who argued for a progressive pick. The group also selected Urey Woodson as temporary secretary and Col. John S. Martin as temporary sergeant at arms, with debate on whether to make the nomination unanimous.
