Iowa Restaurateurs Propose Meatless and Butterless Days
Des Moines operators meeting under the Iowa Restaurant association recommended two meatless days a week and two butterless meals daily. They proposed Wednesdays and Fridays for meatless days and lunch and dinner for butterless meals. The policy would begin Monday with suggested substitutions to keep menus compliant. K. K. McDougall of Waterloo said the plan would be recommended statewide, with other associations urged to follow.

Highway Accident Fatal to Navy Man
Henry Douglas Slauson 24 of Sand Springs on leave from the navy was killed when his car struck a guard rail on a bridge east of Sand Springs and overturned. His companion Phyllis De Shaw sustained minor injuries after they had left a Worthington dance and headed home.

One Convict Recaptured in Amamosa Escape Case
Bruce Kippe 4 of Dubuque is recaptured at Cresco after three inmates escaped from the Amamosa prison farm last Sunday. The other two, Blaine Mitte of Packwood and Gilbert Kelly, were last seen in an automobile believed stolen, traveling south through Ridgeway as deputies pursued leads from Decorah to Dubuque County. Kippe was serving 25 years for rape.

London reports the Soviet attorney general announced 16 Poles including Jan Jankowski and 15 underground leaders will be tried soon on charges of sabotage terrorism and illegal radio use.
