Motorcycle Trucker Collision Claims Newton Man
Lloyd D. Meyers 3, Newton oil station employee and World War I II veteran, died from injuries after a motorcycle-truck collision Friday. He was thrown from the bike and taken to a local hospital. A Clarinda native, Meyers had received a medical discharge from the Seabees a year ago.

James W. Brock 66 of Washington dies Sunday at Oakdale Hospital after years of poor health. Funeral Tuesday at 2:00 at Jones funeral home with burial in Elm Grove. He born January 4 1879 in Williamsburg Iowa son of James A and Sarah Jane Brock. Survived by his wife seven sons and three daughters plus 16 brothers and sisters and 15 grandchildren. One son Clarence preceded him in death.

Poles plead guilty in Soviet trial over armed bands

The Presbyterian church filled for a memorial service honoring Archie Fower who died serving in the Pacific. More than 100 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars members attended. Dr. F. W. Eastwood and L. J. Kehoe spoke, Forrest Walker sang, and Taps by Joss Radda concluded. An American flag, donated through local patriotic groups, was presented by Dale Atkinson of the VFW and Jay Brewer of the Legion.

Chaplain Sharpe Dies After Luzon Service
Chaplain Ainsworth Sharpe died of tropical fever on Luzon on June 7 after 110 days of combat with his regiment. He was in hospital with pneumonia around May 14 but recovered. He was the son of Rev. Fred and Minnie Sharpe and survived by his wife, a daughter, his mother, and his brother Rev. Robert Sharpe.

Trusty Returns to Wapello County Jail
