Car operators moved with extreme care on a slick stretch of Highway 6 north of Decorah after a butter-laden truck overturned and burned. The butter reportedly melted as the vehicle went off the road, prompting cautious travel and cleanup.
Des Moines reports show the conservation commission mandates measuring a fish from snout tip to tail fin end for legality. Relief and WPA aid rose by 3 500 cases in Iowa in May 1937 year over year, though secretary Ralph Kitt inger cites improvement in basic economic conditions despite fever concerns.

William S. Kewney Jr., veteran rural mail carrier, retires today after 29 years in the service. He estimates he has traveled about 328000 miles with no accidents and has served under five postmasters.
Mrs. Ray Plankenhorn of Ainsworth was a shopper in Washington this morning as she visited stores and ran errands.
President Roosevelt will host three days of meetings with 407 Democrats from Congress at the Jefferson Island club on the Maryland side of Chesapeake Bay. He will travel June 24 with cabinet members except Secretary Perkins and WPA Administrator Hopkins, aiming to address congressional concerns.
Leon Beatty post members plan to meet Harry Conery national commander in Ottumwa Friday evening. Conery will attend a 4 00 pm meeting and speak at a 6 30 pm country club banquet with a dollar plate. Washington post invited to attend.

Iowa Supreme Court upholds a Mortgomery county verdict allowing Mr and Mrs Harlan Ebert to remain on their farm until March 1 1939 under the mortgage moratorium. Trustees for Red Oak National Bank appealed, arguing insolvency and lack of ability to redeem within the moratorium, but the court noted potential future finances and emphasized refinancing to save the farm within the moratorium period.
Charlies Martin president of Iowa county near Wellman was arraigned before Justice of the Peace J Ke. Boyce and pleaded not guilty to reckless driving with Attorney L. J. Kehoe as counsel. Justice Bovee set June 24 for the hearing following a side swiping crash on primary road No 1 near Richmond involving Ray Roth of the Wayland community. No injuries were reported.
Judge J. G. Patterson sentenced Harley Noel to six months in Washington county jail with the term suspended on good behavior and paroled to Sheriff Ho. M. Putnam. Noel withdrew his prior not guilty plea and pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit great bodily harm against Oran Warren. The judge also issued several miscellaneous orders in court.
Work continues on a new dairy structure erected by Jay Brewer for modern equipment. The hollow tile building measures 29 by 33 feet with a 12 by 15 foot rear room, one story plus basement. A pistourigation unit and other gear will be installed when complete to modernize the dairy operations.
Istanbul reports that more than 5 000 Kurdish tribesmen were slain in the Persian area of southeastern Asia Minor as the revolt continued. Officials disclosed the toll today.

Bayonne France June 16 insurgent commander Franco predicted Bilbao would fall by tomorrow morning as heavy fighting continued. Bilbao remained central in the Spanish civil war with reports of twelve inch howitzers and feared heavy casualties.
A large turnout from Leon Beatty post of the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary plans to attend the county meeting in Wellman tomorrow evening. Frank Miles of Des Moines will speak with music and entertainment, a launch will be observed by Wellman residents, and dancing will follow late in the evening.
Examiners for automobile licenses held a class of 21 applicants yesterday in Washington. Three had licenses but lost stubs and retested, two sought chauffeur licenses, and all but one passed to receive licenses. Joe Staebell of Ottumwa attended with new partner Bill Maxden of Des Moines. the team will return weekly this summer, shifting from Fridays to Tuesdays.
Supt Perry Jordan and Nea Jacobs of the city water works evacuated a street hole on West Main to escape a sudden geyser from a broken main. They were repairing a connection to Crone grocery when a weak pipe burst, flooding the site. The ladder helped briefly before workers plugged the hole with a pole and resumed repairs.
James McGregor 50 of Eldon died in a hospital a week after an attempted freight train boarding led to a fall down an embankment. The accident occurred near Davenport where he was injured and later succumbed to internal injuries.

Funeral services for Mrs Amanda L Ella Sherman will be held at two oclock Thursday at Sherman funeral home, with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. She died yesterday at Mt Pleasant after years of ill health. Born February 16 1867 in Decatur county Iowa, she lived in Seymour and rejoined the Christian Science church and Rebekah lodge. Survived by two daughters Mrs Lloyd F Moothart and Mrs Edward Nieleon, two sons deceased, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also step son Don Sherman and step son Forge Sherman. Five siblings listed Gideon Sage Leon Iowa Mary A Stiles Shell Rock Iowa J A Wood Twin Falls Idaho Frank Wesson Seattle George W Sage Toppenish Wash.
