Police report Davenport officers Elmer Schluetter and Al Schueltz abducted by three masked men. The trio forced Schluetter to drive west while guarding Schueltz and shifting cars toward Blue Grass. Authorities suspect Dillinger gang involvement and potential bank robbery plans.
The county board of supervisors named R. C. Ferguson of West Chester H G Richardson of Washington and Miss Marian H Baker as the Washington County Old Age Assistance Board. Ferguson serves one year while Richardson and Baker serve two years each. Members receive no compensation, only necessary travel expenses. The board will help determine eligibility under the old age pension law enacted last session.
A note explains polite rejection of young solicitors selling Journal subscriptions for bicycle prizes. It urges patience with the callers who believe everyone in Washington county should subscribe, noting they mean well and work hard.

More than 1,400 people attended a chinch bug demonstration at the Guenther and Darbyshire farms near town. County Agent Roudabush and Prof Worthington led talks before showing a barrier method to stop bug transfer, with three carloads of suitable material ordered for the county.
The Four Square Gospel church on South Marion Ave opened with a crowd of about 400. Washington Concert band played from 7 to 7:30 p.m. A dedicatory service may be held later, perhaps during Aimee Semple McPherson’s July visit for a camp meeting in Fairfield. The Melody Boys trio, Rev. Gerald Hoyer, Rev. W. Stevens, and local singers performed. Services run nightly except Monday and Saturday with a Central Park service planned this week and Bert Campbell’s orchestra at the church tonight. The Journal thanks the Concert band and Horseshoe club for meeting support.
Arthur Duensing was elected president Dean Johnson of Brighton vice president Charles Palmer secretary ad treasurer Marvin Matthes of Wellman and Hugh Jones of Keota were named directors of the Washington county cow testing association at a meeting held yesterday evening in the farm bureau office with about 25 persons present Floyd Arnold of the extension service spoke on the present situation involving feed for cattle.
Rev and Mrs W H Parker of Cotter were in Washington yesterday for unspecified duties or meetings, reflecting local clergy engagement and travel.

Funeral services for James Mitchell Thompson born 1846 will be held Friday at two o'clock at Sherman’s funeral home conducted by Dr. F W Eastwood. Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery. Thompson, I det commander of I G White post G A R, rode the pony express before the Civil War and served in Company F Eleventh Ohio cavalry. He died yesterday at age 88.
The Le Claire event featured Dave as song leader and Ernest Simpson guiding a recreation conference. Helen Masson was chosen secretary and Rachel Brown of Le Claire was elected president for the coming year. The gathering occurred Tuesday evening at the Le Claire Prairie church near Le Claire.

Mrs Catherine McCarthy 97 formerly of Washington died yesterday in Mercy hospital Davenport. The body will be brought here for burial in Elm Grove cemetery with services at St James Catholic Church Friday at nine. She was born in Ireland and lived much of her life in Washington. Surviving nieces and nephews include Pat Tobin Almorth Tom Tobin Riverside Lou Tobin Haskins Albert Donovan Washington and Father Thomann Keota.
