House leaders pressed through four major bills aiming to adjourn tomorrow night with Senate decisions pending on deficiency and housing measures. Rep Burns said passage would leave adjournment to the Senate as Tugwell was confirmed 53 to 24 as under secretary of agriculture.
Washington Knights of Columbus council held an annual election naming J. M. Kelly grand knight and listing officers including Rev. J. Ho O Donnell as chaplain and J. M. Wolfe as recording secretary. Delegates to the state convention include J. M. Kelly and Joe Pieper with alternates Mark Koening Ernie Kloepter.
Ames Iowa June 15 Miss Nora Workman home furnishing specialist in the Extension Service at Iowa State College advises covering an overstuffed chair with inexpensive cotton or satin to cool and beautify a room. The covers protect fabric from dampness and dust and extend chair life. For plain rooms a small gay print is favored. for color-rich rooms soft plain colors work. Information on slip covers is available by writing to the Extension Service at Ames.
Washington plumbers announce full compliance with the national code and publish its interpretation for the plumbing industry. The code, signed by the president, protects the public by demanding quality work. Local shops Eveready Plumbing, J W Bidwell, and Reams Carson operate under the code. violations incur a $500 daily fine.
The municipal band presents two programs on Saturday in Central Park at eight o clock directed by Milburn A. McKay with Grant Goodlander and William Stewart as soloists. Sunday follows in Sunset Park at 8:30 p m featuring sacred and popular numbers, marches, intermezzos, and concert selections by Barnhouse Pryor and other composers.
County auditor Ethel Greetan reported minor discrepancies after the canvass by the board of supervisors. Republicans led by Mrs Coutter and Miss Greetan show large totals with several scattered votes, while Democrats posted small gains and many minor changes across numerous offices.

Mrs. Haller of Lexington, 1H years old, died at 5 30 this morning at her home. She had been in poor health for years and bedfast recently. Born near Riverside to Henry and Margaret Desing, she lived mainly in Wellman and Lexington. She married James Haller in 1892 and survived by husband and children Will Down Islea Juanita Ollie Joe and Aledia Haller. County Treasurer Marion S. George will visit towns next week to collect the one dollar old age pension tax before July first. Dorothy Harvey led a well groomed girl contest with prizes and delegates named for the Ames state 4-H convention.
ST. JOSEPH MO June 16 Three Iowa men were released unharmed after sixteen hours in the hands of a Texas desperado captured by police. Joe Palmer 30 confessed the murder of a prison guard and a series of Iowa bank robberies and killings with Clyde Barrow and Hennie Parker. Palmer was arrested after releasing the captives and had earlier abducted Davenport officer Elmer Schleuter and secretary Al Schultze and seized a veterinary surgeon's car near Walcott Iowa.
In Muscatine on June 15 Howard Wells a part time city employee and his wife walked into the river with their five hungry children nearby all were unable to be heard by onlookers. Wells drowned and his wife was rescued.
Herbert Penzi of Brown University reports that 723 of 100 New England residents study of American English variations finds the phrase dropped eggs used only there. The term poached eggs appears in other regions less commonly.
Cheyenne city council approves a five percent levy on proceeds from two baseball pools operating for the season. The tax revenue will go to the city treasury.
