In Sanderson Texas an inland tidal flood devastated the town leaving at least 13 dead 16 missing and hundreds homeless. Red Cross ran low on serum as flood waters damaged rail lines and swept through the cemetery. Power returned gradually and shelter housed residents awaiting typhoid shots.
Iowa governor led trade mission in Paris for a 21 day European tour with farmers and financial members meeting French bankers. Art Vogel of Vogel Popcorn Co reported a sale and MIRACLE Equipment eyeing up to 1 million in extra sales. Barnard and Leas plans fertilizer plant exports as talks with French officials continue. A Bermuda style junior high dance and YMCA event follow the Paris meetings.
Government experts warn the northeast states may endure the worst drought in history. Water supplies from New Jersey to New England could fall to critical levels, triggering rationing, lawn watering bans, and pool restrictions if substantial rain does not arrive soon.
Police captured James Clark and Clarence Hunter after using tear gas to force them from an upstairs Davenport apartment. The men were wanted in Ohio for larceny of Leroy Jennings's car, whose body was found near Cincinnati. No weapons were found, and they await transfer to Cincinnati on charges.

The concert band will give two free public concerts on June 20 at 3 p.m. and June 25 at 8 p.m. in the Iowa Memorial Union.
Duane Earl Pope, 22, a McPherson College football co captain, surrendered in a downtown hotel after a national plea by college president Dr. D. W. Bittinger. Prosecutors filed federal bank robbery charges in Kansas City with $100000 bond. Nebraska murder warrants remain, and possible death penalty looms if convicted.

Space center reports James McDivitt and Edward White enjoyed a brief respite with families after circling Earth 62 times in four days. The pair declined a weekend with President Johnson at LBJ Ranch as they await Mondays ticker tape parade in Chicago and other celebrations. Johnson announced promotions to lieutenant colonel for McDivitt and White and promoted Gus Grissom, with Cooper slated for July 15.
