Dong Xoai battle in Viet Nam leaves heavy losses
Government troops repelled a Viet Cong assault on Dong Xoai 60 miles north of Saigon in one of the war’s bitterest battles. About 31 Americans were counted dead or missing with 13 wounded, while Pentagon sources warned casualties could reach 500. The fighting around the town left more than 100 corpses and a scorched landscape as U S advisers and Seabees defended a camp for Vietnamese forces.

Funeral services for Wayland retiree Clark Loder held Sunday
Clark J. Loder a lifelong Wayland farmer auctioneer and well driller died Thursday morning June 10 at Mercy Hospital after a week’s illness. Born June 13 1877 he married Estella Messer in 1902 and is survived by six children including Wymond Milford Leona Schumann Wallace Mildred Tebeckhorst and Wendell plus 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. The Stacy Funeral Home Columbus Junction handles arrangements with body at the home until Sunday noon when it will be moved to Cottonwood EUB Church for services at 2 p.m. with burial in Greenmound Cemetery.

Mrs Marsh Atkinson director of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program at the Washington Municipal Pool announced that enrollments are in and the six week schedule starts Monday June 14. The 1 000 county youngsters will attend sessions at Washington City Ainsworth Crawfordsville West Chester Riverside Wellman and Brighton on specified mornings through Friday.
