Judge James Nolan halted nearby carpenters Friday to hear a plaintiff in a boundary dispute. The din faded but the plaintiff’s words remained unclear. The judge jailed him for drunkenness or sent him to jail for 10 days.
In Phoenix a discouraged unemployed welder nicknamed a prospector was identified by a wealthy local woman as her kidnapper. Police say the man abducted her for 75 000 dollars, with authorities pursuing the missing ransom and possible accomplice. Marsin denied or admitted as questions continued.
In Crawfordsville Friday afternoon a blast from the Joe H. Johnston home pressure tank in the basement near the dining room caused extensive damage. The tank, pump, motor and piping were demolished, a dining room china cabinet shattered, ceiling plaster ruined, and a floor sill fractured. Mrs. Johnston had just stepped outside moments before. Investigation cites possible stuck automatic controls causing excess pressure.
An 11-year-old boy testified two men started a blaze that killed seven and injured eight in a four story Chicago apartment. Fire officials described a rapid inferno with an explosion on the third floor and victims escaping through windows.
The pelican derives its name from the Greek pele kus meaning big beak. The term combines Greek words for an axe shaped bill and the bird’s notable long beak.

In Cochocton Ohio volunteers found a third body on Cletus Reese farm west of town naming the site Murder Ridge. Lester Melick 58 of Danville is identified among the dead. Clyde Patton 28 was killed earlier and his body found in a furrow. Reese 36 confessed to slaying Patton.
Michael Stone 11 of Clinton drowned in the west channel of the Mississippi River at the Clinton Municipal Dock while swimming with other boys. His body was recovered about 30 minutes after he sank near a barge and the commercial dock. Artificial respiration failed after about 15 minutes. swimming was prohibited in the area. Stone was the son of Mr and Mrs John Stone.
In North Adams Massachusetts barber Tony Gattuso kept shaving a customer while firefighters fought a blaze in his shop. The incident drew onlookers as flames spread through the building, but the barber persisted with his grooming task.
In Paris the Nations Assembly defeated Premier Joseph Laniel in a confidence vote 306 to 29 against the government over Indochina policy. Because the opposition lacked an absolute majority, Laniel can either resign or stay on until another confidence vote clarifies his mandate. Cabinet to meet as France faces a crossroads during Geneva talks to end the Indochina war.
Washington officials say Dulles conditions for American intervention could be met overnight, signaling potential aid to France and Indochinese forces. Five power talks ended in secrecy as France faces pressure to sustain the fight with Allied help.

Perlman as successor and orders a New York board meeting after stockholder votes. Projections show Young holding about 37 percent of all shares with a large margin among registered stockholders.
Camping season arrives at Lake Darling and the Lake Youth Center seeks donations. Call Dr. A C Peterson or Artemas Brown at the YMCA to donate items such as three or four single cots, garden tools, rakes, shovels, forks, scythe, a wheel barrow or garden cart, and kitchen storage cabinets.
Washington reports Sen. Henry M. Jackson said Roy M. Cohn threatened to “get” him after critiquing Pvt. David Lechine’s world Communist plan. The dispute arose during Army McCarthy hearings with no blows struck as Kennedy hinted at threats to Jackson Monday. Cohn denied threats though called Jackson unfair in questions about Schine.
John A Fields of Tipton Iowa was hired by the Wellman School Board to succeed Supt M A Fields who resigned to head Louisa county schools. Fields has worked as a Tipton salesman and previously served as superintendent at McCallsburg Iowa. He is married with two children. Two faculty vacancies remain for principal and kindergarten teacher.
Several thousand Catholic militia men defended Vinh Ba village near Hanoi against a Viet Minh assault. French High Command said the village and a Franco Vietnamese post repelled multiple waves of Red troops on the Red River delta. French union troops clashed with rebels in another delta sector near the Hanoi Haiphong line.
James Havel Jr. 82 lifelong resident of a farm 11 miles northeast of Washington died Friday at 6:30 pm after a stroke. Funeral Sunday 2:30 pm Riverside Methodist Church with Rev. Dendy Garrett. In federal court Lolita Lebron testified that Rafael Cancel Miranda was the plot’s real leader and supplied the gun used in the March 1 attack on four Puerto Ricans. Lebron described pleading to join the group and losing fear as she recounted the Washington restaurant encounter before the Capitol gunfire.
