Milwaukee clerk Jeannine Wohlgemuth accidentally packed a dress with a cash bag containing 700 dollars and 159 in checks. The customer, Mrs. Alice Diefendorf, notified the shop that she had found the money and returned it, showing the honesty of shoppers.
Dr Robert W Thompson 83, sole Washington resident in 1954 Who's Who, remains active as a minister. He preaches weekly across miles, edits Keep Busy, and writes a national Bible study column while guiding missions and youth work with his wife Alice at the United Presbyterian home.

Funeral services for Andrew W Pimme will be held at 2 p m Tuesday June 15 in the Marsh funeral home Keota with Dr Arthur Peters of West Chester in charge. Burial will be in the Keota cemetery. He was born December 26 1869 in Keokuk county the son of Albert Pimme and Regina Bau mert Pimime. He lived in Seventy Six township and attended rural schools. He was married January 2 1906 at Wellman to Clara Brandt. Survivors include his wife one brother Albert a sister Lucy at Washington.

Due to a schedule change two Washington organizations have consolidated camping at the Lake Darling Youth Center. The week of July 19 to July 24 is now free for another group to use the facilities. Artemas Brown invites written or phone inquiries. Camping began with nearly 100 county 4 H girls for three days and will switch to the 4 H boys later in the week.
Funeral services for Harvey Orwell Banks 78 of 1202 East Washington Street will be held Tuesday at 2 50 p m at Sherman's Funeral Home with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery Walter A Smith will preside He died Sunday morning after three months illness He was born March 5 1876 in Mansfield Ohio and came to Washington County living on a Dutch Creek farm before moving to Washington in February 1900 He was married June 6 1900 in Keokuk County to Katherine Eaton and is survived by his wife a son David Crawfordsville six daughters and many grandchildren great grandchildren and siblings.
Tommie Tucker commander of Leon Beatty American Legion post reminded members of their regular meeting Tuesday night. A short business session will plan for the July celebration. Afterward a fun night program will be held with committees urged to attend.
Queen Elizabeth II personally invested Winston Churchill with the Order of the Garter in a private Windsor Castle ceremony. She awarded him the Star of the Garter and the Golden Collar, then two knights draped the Blue Mantle over his shoulders. A procession to St. George's Chapel followed.
An 11 year old boy admitted lighting a staircase fire that killed seven people in a Chicago tenement. Authorities said Marion Gregory would likely face arson charges after he claimed the act was not deliberate though he had read a comic titled The Human Torch. Psychological tests were planned and Gregory was placed in a children's home while a relief fund of 942.50 was set up to ship victims’ bodies to Franklin County Alabama for burial.
Norman Hankins a 34 year old Tucson Arizona resident drowned early Sunday when a boat carrying four men sank on Cone Lake in Muscatine County. Hankins formerly lived in Conesville and with his family had been visiting Iowa. Three other men escaped with help from bystander Dick Singleton. Funeral set for 2 30 p m Tuesday Evangelical Reformed church Conesville with American Legion rites. survivors include wife and five children.
Xi Alpha sorority members in Washington join Home Association of Washington to raise the remaining 20,000 of the 100,000 goal for a South Iowa retirement home. Volunteers work with no pay, aiming to start building once full funding is secured. gifts and pledges have reached 70,000 to date with an anonymous 15,000 pledge tied to reaching the total.

Surviving are Olef Rosenwing her husband two daughters Verna Downey Wanda Williams two sons Glen McCoy Ralph McCoy a sister Mrs Doran Bolar of Washington and four brothers J M Goodwin Clarence Goodwin Lloyd V Goodwin and W Harvey Goodwin. Funeral arrangements are pending.
