In last night’s city league games at the troop field All Nations beat American Pearls 4 to 3 while American Legion defeated Odd Fellows 22 to 10. Batting orders list players for both games with positions and line scores.
City tennis event sponsored by Nicola and Harmons Sporting Goods opens with five divisions including Men's and Women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles. Play starts next week.
The table shows NL standings with New York and St. Louis atop the league and games yesterday results. It lists open dates for Brooklyn at Pittsburgh Philadelphia at Chicago and New York at Cincinnati with American League results and open dates for Detroit New York Cleveland St Louis Boston Philadelphia and Chicago.
Jim Shultz former Washington high school athletic coach spent time in town visiting friends and recalling his years directing Washington football and basketball teams two years ago before moving to Keokuk as football coach. He says Charlie McAvoy was the best football player he ever coached and praises Dale Kiesey.
Entries for the week tournament are being taken today and will close Saturday. Participants are to submit at Nicola and Harmon's, with full publication details expected tomorrow.
Wapello visits Troop Field for a Tri-County softball game against Washington at 8:30 this evening. Washington fans look to see their second local appearance after Wyman Stan Kiesey held the visitors hitless in the last game.
Pythian Past Chief Circle and husbands picnic Tuesday at 6 30 at Sunset Park with sandwiches dish to pass and table service. Alma Hearne Holland Missionary Society also picnics at 6 15 Tuesday at Sunset Park with Miss Stella Palmer hosting. Baptist Young Women's Missionary Society hosts a 6 30 pot luck supper Tuesday at the church bring table service including glasses.
The notice states this will be the last meeting until September and reminds members dues are delinquent after July 1. Thursday is Log Cabin Day with visitors welcomed from 10 a m at the D A R log cabin in Sunset Park. The Flag Day picnic is at 6:30 p m and the regular meeting follows at 7:30 p m.
