Keota marshal shot. manhunt widens in Iowa shooting

Keota Night Marshal Doug Bell, 23, was found shot near his patrol car early today two miles south of Keota along highway 77. Authorities say a large investigation is underway with state agents aiding as they pursue possible links to car thefts and tavern break ins at The Roost and The Long Branch, with no formal suspect named.

Hays Awakens From 20 Hour Coma After Sleep Aid Overdose

Congressman Wayne Hays of Ohio, 65, emerged from a 20 hour coma at Barnsville Medical Center after an overdose of Dalmane sleeping pills. Doctor said he was upgraded to satisfactory condition and could say a few words as his wife Pat visited. He was in hospital following a Washington sex scandal inquiry and had just won the Democratic nomination for a 23rd term. The physician noted no evidence of attempted suicide.

Hitchhiker assaulted after ride near Iowa City

Luann Morris, 36, was hitchhiking on Highway 218 near Riverside when a man offering a ride drove to the 218 22 junction and attempted to assault her with a knife. She escaped, was treated for a cut foot, and described the suspect as a white man in his 40s, about 58, 220 pounds, with black curly hair, driving a brown or dark tan 1970s two door Ford.
