NFO Launches Buy In Campaign To Boost Soybean Prices
The National Farmers Organization announces a buy in campaign to pressure processors by reducing soybean supply. Oren Lee Staley says unannounced buying sprees will hit soybean mills in Iowa and the Midwest after a Redfield Iowa plant surge where 50 60 NFC members secured meal and beans. A special train was used to move beans but workers say shipments were regular and the plant short on beans. Staley hints more farm actions may occur this summer and fall to lift prices for farmers.

Brighton man Harold J. Brown dies after band concert
Harold J. Brown of Brighton died Wednesday night after attending a band concert in Richland. Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home. Born July 4, 1897 in Keosaqua, he was the son of Sherman and Edna Bell Brown. He married Elizabeth Hodson Oct. 1, 1916. she died Feb. 24, 1961. They lived in Pembine, Wisconsin for 40 years before returning to Brighton in 1954. Survived by a son Harold Jr. of Kansas City, a sister Elizabeth Anderson of Denver, and a brother James Brown of Pembine.

Giant tree limb damages Ossman car on windy Monday
A maple tree limb fell on Harold Ossman’s 192 auto six miles northeast of Washington causing 800 dollars in damage. The limb ripped from the tree during Monday winds. Ossman noted it was the first time he parked in that spot. His sons Jim Ed and Bill were pictured surveying the scene.

Maniac with flamethrower attacks Cologne school
A man used a home made flamethrower and spear to invade a Cologne elementary school. He burned at least 30 children, killed two teachers, and injured several others before being shot by a police officer. Ursula Kuhr, 26, died shielding students.
