Careful Iowa survey finds over half a million in delinquent taxes
Iowa's delinquent division of the State Tax Commission reports $559,479 collected from July 1, 1963 to June 5, 1964 and identifies more than 67,500 potential delinquents. Data processing and cross checks of ITSA forms versus employee copies reveal many who did not file or underpaid taxes, with further hand checks narrowing the suspect list.

Farm Bureau hosts merchant hospitality hour in Washington
Washington merchants are invited to visit the Farm Bureau offices on Washington on North Iowa Avenue Saturday between 3 and 4 p.m. An open house runs from 9 to 11 a.m. with free coffee and doughnuts. East Germany and Soviet Union sign 20 year friendship pact
The Soviet Union and East Germany signed a 20 year mutual assistance pact declaring West Berlin a separate unit from West Germany. Khrushchev and Ulbricht announced at the Kremlin rally. Western diplomats say the move boosts Ulbricht’s prestige and does not create a peace treaty or change West Berlin access rights. Ulbricht called for eventual East West German rapprochement and urged the U.S Britain and France to free West Germany to negotiate.
