In New Hampton Michael Dowd reports being approached by two gypsy women in a car on a highway and later discovering $6 missing from his pockets. Officers investigate this unusual incident as part of local patrols.
Amos Harper, 28, released on parole from the Iowa State Penitentiary after five years and eight months for a murder now deemed not committed. The parole board found Harper not guilty and that Marshall Lee, the supposed victim and a Buena Vista county farmer, died of natural causes.
Atlantic Sheriff Pat Edwards sought identity of a supposedly abandoned car and a man described as about 25 years old and weighing roughly 125 pounds. Witnesses believed the man hitchhiked toward Omaha.
Waterloo police seek 39 diamond rings and a stray yellow gold wedding ring set taken from four loan shops during the night theft. The loss prompts a lookout for the jewelry and any witnesses.
The moving picture King of Kings will be shown at the Christian church Thursday evening. The film, a Cecil DeMille production with sound, retells the story of Christ and has been praised nationwide. Admission is charged to cover the guaranteed amount required for the screening.

Iowa labor delegates vote 332 to 8 to seat 85 coal miner delegates as the CIO bloc amid a split from the AFL. William Green is harshly criticized by speakers led by ex president J. C. Lewis for attempting to block CIO representation. Canfield of Cedar Rapids defends the seat plan while apologizing for past opposition.
In Atlanta on June 9 the repeal effort to end Georgia's dry laws led by about 10,000 votes, with results from 153 of 159 counties reported by INS.

A planned power strike by Consumers' Power Co employees aims to pressure wage and union recognition talks. The strike could halt service across the Saginaw valley with about 500,000 residents in 187 towns affected and over 100,000 workers anticipated to be idle by nightfall.
Burlington Transportation adds a new bus service between Moline Illinois and Des Moines Iowa effective June 15. The outbound departs Moline 6:00 AM arrives Washington 8:20 AM arrives Des Moines 11:50 AM with westbound connections. Return departs Des Moines 5:00 PM arrives Washington 8:25 PM while the existing schedule shifts slight times including Washington westbound 4:05 PM and eastbound 3:18 PM.
Rev. W. J. Stevens of the Foursquare Gospel tabernacle announced a union service with Washington and Fairfield churches at the local tabernacle Friday at 7 30 pm. Fairfield pastor will attend and special music is planned.
American Legion officials launch preliminary plans for Red Oak's tenth annual July 4 program featuring balloon ascension dances fireworks displays baseball games carnival shows marching band contests concerts and other entertainment activities.
Crowds braved the cold to watch the Seal Bros circus parade in Washington. The unit showcased tigers lions and bears ponies two camels three elephants two bands and a steam locomotive ending the procession with a spectacle as officials managed truck unloads on the new show grounds route.

Fairfield, Iowa June 9 two former workers for Birmingham farmer Jay Mathias were arrested here and in Davenport on charges of stealing $1000 from Mathias’s home Monday while he was held at gunpoint. Monte Harreld 17 confessed here and Tom Linder confessed in Davenport. Linder had 850 dollars on him.
The Iowa utility sector appoints Mr. Bentzinger as general manager of operations beyond the Burlington Rail Way and Light era. Previously attached to that company, he joined Centerville as assistant GM in 1914 and has served eleven years in that role.
The Y's Men’s Club held a meeting featuring Dr. W. D. Dwyer who explained why a book published under two names sold better. Seven new members were formally inducted and a bound roster and revised constitution were distributed. Summer activities dominated the discussion and a ladies night is planned with committee members John Winga D. N. Huributt and Tom Duncan.

MEDIAPOLIS June 9. A bus and a truck collided on road No. 61 killing three people including the drivers and injuring seven others. The bus from Cedar Rapids to St. Louis carried passengers from Frankfort Missouri and Madison Missouri. Coroner Adank led the inquiry as deputies and highway patrol officers investigated the crash. Victims were Charles Johnson 30 driver of the bus from Frankfort Missouri Hester Cunningham 45 passenger from Madison Missouri and Clinton Giese 27 driver of the truck from Burlington.
Homer Robbins, 31, described as a maniac, was trapped between two houses in Milbury Mass and killed by a fusillade of bullets after exchanging shots with state troopers during a gas duel with officers and a patrolman.
