Mason City council rejects a petition from 35 beer permit holders to cut the annual license fee of 250 dollars. Members said keeping the fee may reduce the number of permits.
Cedar Rapids Iowa Brand Munson 22 of Davenport is recovering in a local hospital after his car left the road and plunged into a ditch near Alburnett. His unconscious body slumped at the wheel triggered his car horn and drew a passing motorist to provide aid.
INDIANOLA Thirty of the 90 members of Simpson College class of 1912 attended their twenty fifth reunion. Dr. Leroy Perkins flew from Boston for the event and Mrs. Elizabeth Walker Jones traveled from Yakima Washington.
Wapello county supervisors plan to invite bids in January for a new county home estimated at 125000 dollars. After the former county home burned the board sought a federal grant and patients remain housed in other counties institutions.
Humboldt Mrs. Sarah B. Catlett 98, Humboldt’s oldest resident, died after declaring she would outlive John D Rockefeller. She served meals to surveyors during early railroad planning, was the first secretary of the local Eastern Star chapter, and the last batter member of the Congregational church.
Winterset report says Hoerris McIntosh, about 20, died after being knocked from a crane when a pulley broke at a stone quarry. He fell ten feet onto rock, suffering a fractured skull and broken neck.

A rebel communique says Albert Durad, second in command of the royalist International brigade, was killed on the Madrid front. Four tri motor insurgent planes dropped fifty bombs, most landing in streets with minor damage.
Atlanta resident Joe Poe 24 was kidnapped by a vigilante group after ignoring a sobriety warning. He was driven to a remote spot and severely flogged, then found on his porch when two cars halted outside his home as he attempted to flee.

The Crawfordsville Methodist Episcopal Church marks its centennial with a week of events June 13 to 20. A history titled A Century of Methodism will be distributed. Speakers include Rev. Henry D Henry Iowa Wesleyan College president and Rev J W Potter with local officials Harlan Foster and Judge R G Popham scheduled to speak near the Moorhead cabin site.
The Iowa state federation of labor opens its convention in Sioux City amid a potential split between CIO sympathizers and the committee for industrial organization. Elwin Lewis of Washington Iowa received word that his brother Harry E Lewis 44 was struck and killed by a transport truck near Denver. The body was identified from a letter addressed to him in care of his Washington brother. Lewis had spent the winter in Washington and left for Denver last Saturday planning to visit relatives and seek work.
