Geologist hunts Iowa Ice Age mammals and rodents
University of Iowa geologist Dr. Holmes Semken will lead summer expeditions across Iowa seeking fossil remains of mammals from the ice ages, including mammoths, giant beaver, camels, and glyptodon, plus rodents to gauge ancient climates. He will be aided by two graduate students and will study existing fossils to map time intervals and search for new specimens.
